Rockin ribs and helpin kids

I don't think our stomachs had any idea what we were up to when we bellied up to the 21st Annual Northeast Exchange's Ribfest at the Vinoy in St. Petersburg. What we thought an unassuming children's fundraiser wound up being a real gut buster. Most ribs were slathered with barbeque sauces, which I didn't mind, but one of my favorites was a dry rub from Willingham's World Champion BBQ (I belive my nephew agreed but it was hard to tell what he was mumbling with six ribs shoved into his mouth). Another favorite was from the Australian BBQ Team (aussomaussie.com). There was a crispy char on the meat that didn't get soggy when dressed with sauce. If that wasn't bad enough, we made room to guzzle down a refreshing lemonade (perfect for such a warm day) and deep-fried twinkies and oreos. I think we were seriously debating attending the event for a second day, but we were having a hard enough time surviving our first food comas. Next year, ribs. We're coming back!
